The Emirati League against Epilepsy (ELAE) is a professional chapter of the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE) — the world’s leading organisation dedicated to the advancement of epilepsy care, research and education. ELAE brings together health care providers, scientists and technologists across the UAE who are committed to improving the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life of people living with epilepsy.

Established in 2005 as the official UAE chapter of ILAE. Formally registered under the Dubai Association Centre (DAC), UAE, in 2019.

To ensure the implementation of standards of epilepsy care and education across the UAE, and advance professional epilepsy care to internationally accepted standards.

To provide nation-wide education and training to all healthcare providers in the various aspects of epilepsy, and engage local neurologists in all chapter activities at local, regional and international levels.

To educate the general public about epilepsy, its management and available support, including forums for patients and their caregivers.

To promote the exchange of medical and scientific information, and support research and surveys in the field of epilepsy and related subjects.

To collaborate with the regional chapters of CEMA in the areas of education and research, and organise congresses, forums and educational and research meetings as required.

To engage with governmental agencies to advocate for comprehensive coverage of the medical and surgical requirements for patients with epilepsy.

Since our founding in 2005, ELAE has been at the forefront of epilepsy advocacy, education and research in the UAE. Over two decades we have grown into a recognised professional society connecting clinicians, researchers and patient advocates across the country and the wider region.
